First-time legislator says ministerial role would help accelerate development, women’s safety and employment initiatives in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: With the new Assam government set to take shape, Sewli Mohilary, on April 8, expressed her interest in joining the state cabinet, saying a ministerial role would enable her to push development projects in Kokrajhar more effectively.
Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the Kokrajhar Municipal Board at Pragati Bhawan, the first-time MLA said her strong mandate had increased her responsibility toward the constituency. “I am seeking a ministerial position. As a woman MLA, I believe I can contribute more effectively to development work if given ministerial responsibility,” she said.
Additionally, Mohilary stressed Kokrajhar’s political importance, noting that the constituency has historically enjoyed representation in the state cabinet. “Kokrajhar is a prestigious and important capital constituency. There is still a lot of work to be done for its development,” she added.
Highlighting her priorities, Mohilary pointed to urban beautification, women’s safety, and employment generation as key focus areas. She further emphasised the need for close coordination with the Centre to boost tourism and economic growth in the region.
“Nothing is achieved without asking for it,” she remarked while referring to her ministerial aspirations. At the same time, she clarified that her commitment to public service would continue regardless of the party’s final decision.
During the event, supporters welcomed her with traditional Assamese and Bodo cultural honours, including aronai and japi, as hundreds gathered to celebrate her victory.
