From Jalukbari to Dhubri, constituency-wise numbers reveal clear leads, tight races, and shifting margins

Guwahati: Counting for the 126-seat Assam Assembly is underway, and detailed round-wise figures now offer a clearer picture of the contest. Early trends continue to favour the BJP-led NDA, though Congress has registered strong leads in select constituencies.
In Jalukbari, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma polled 5,989 votes, far ahead of Congress’ Bidisha Neog (1,010 votes). In Dispur, BJP surged with 24,906 votes, while Congress trailed at 4,851 and Independents at 2,238.
In Jorhat, BJP secured 27,903 votes against Congress’ 18,618, building a lead of 9,285 votes. Similarly, in New Guwahati, BJP’s tally stood at 16,044 votes, while Congress managed 7,605 votes. In Sonari (10th round), BJP got 3,592 votes against Congress’ 3,264, maintaining a cumulative lead of 8,542 votes.
Congress, however, dominated in key pockets. In Dhubri, the party polled 6,600 votes, compared to AIUDF’s 2,906 and BJP’s 530, creating a lead of 11,875 votes. In Birsing Jarua, Congress candidate Wazed Ali Choudhury secured 7,706 votes, while AIUDF got 818 and an Independent 2,820, pushing the overall lead to 20,173 votes.
In Parbatjhora, Congress led with 10,085 votes against BPF’s 5,254. In Goalpara East, Congress polled 13,716 votes, ahead of AGP’s 9,564.
Among NDA allies, AGP’s Deepmoyee Choudhury led in Bongaigaon with 26,424 votes, ahead of Congress (15,957) and Independent (11,886). In Dimoria, AGP’s Tapan Das secured 31,428 votes, while Congress stood at 13,242, a margin of 18,186 votes.
In Gossaigaon, BPF recorded 9,125 votes, followed by JMM (7,392), UPPL (6,128), and Congress (883), leading by 1,733 votes.
In Upper Assam, BJP maintained its edge. In Sivasagar, BJP polled 8,145 votes against Raijor Dal’s 6,721. In Nazira, BJP secured 5,950 votes, while Congress stood at 3,499.
Reacting to the trends, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi stated, “This is just the beginning… we will keep an eye on every vote.”
With 722 candidates, including 258 Independents, margins remain fluid. As more rounds conclude, these numbers are expected to shift, making every constituency crucial in determining the final outcome.
