Digitising Assam 2.0 Puts 2.76 Million Pages of Assamese Literature Online with Search Access

Nanda Talukdar Foundation’s initiatives transform the archive into a searchable knowledge base, boosting research and language preservation

Guwahati: In a major step for preserving and expanding access to Assamese literature, the Nanda Talukdar Foundation has launched “Digitising Assam 2.0”, placing 2.16 million pages of literacy and archival material online with advanced search features.

The platform allows users to locate information instantly by entering keywords. As a result, works related to figures like Bhupen Hazarika or themes such as the Brahmaputra can now be accessed within seconds. Importantly, the database includes books, journals, manuscripts, and rare historical records that were previously scattered across physical archives.

Over the past five years, the initiative has steadily built this collection through a community-driven effort. Now, with keyword-based search across formats and time periods, static documents have been converted into a dynamic research tool. Experts note that this will significantly support academic research, linguistic studies, and cultural documentation.

The project’s technology was developed by Borno Labs and Bohniman Systems using artificial intelligence to process complex Assamese texts. Officials described it as “a structural shift that connects preservation with accessibility.”

Looking ahead, the foundation plans to launch a mobile application that will enable users to scan and upload documents directly, thereby encouraging wider public participation. Additionally, internship opportunities linked to the National Education Policy are under consideration.

Both the upgraded platform and the app are expected to be formally launched in June, with financial support from Oil India Limited.
