Midnight Gunfire Near Paresh Baruah’s Ancestral Home Sparks Security Concerns in Dibrugarh

No injuries reported as police probe suspected attempt to disrupt peace in Upperc assam

Dibrugarh: Tension gripped Dibrugarh district after unidentified individualls allegedly fired shots near the ancestral residence of United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) chief Paresh Baruah in Jerai Gaon under Chabua, late Sunday night.

The incident reportedly took place shortly after midnight, when at least two rounds were fired near the residence of Baruah’s younger brother, Mission Baruah. Family members stated that no one was injured, but the sudden gunfire created panic in the otherwise quiet locality.

A relative of Baruah confirmed that police were informed immediately, following which a team from Chabua police station reached the spot and began preliminary inquiries. He suggested that such acts may be aimed at unsettling the region’s law and order situation.

Police officials said they have initiated a detailed investigation and are collecting CCTV footage from nearby areas. However, no clear visual evidence of the firing has emerged so far. Authorities are working to identify those involved and determine the motive behind the act.

Initial inputs also indicate that the attackers fled soon after the incident. Security presence in the area has since been heightened as a precautionary measure. Investigators are examining whether the firing was intended as intimidation or part of a broader attempt to create instability in the region.
