Garima Garg Casts Vote Despite Ill Health: Urges Justice in Zubeen Garg Case

Family of late singer calls voting a duty, expresses hope for swift justice

Guwahati: Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, turned out to vote in the Dispur constituency on Thursday, April 9, underlining the importance of civic responsibility even as she continues to recover from recent health issues.

Having been discharged from hospital just a day earlier, Garima said she felt it was essential to participate in the democratic process. “I was discharged from the hospital just yesterday. Earlier, I would always come with Zubeen, but today as well, it is everyone’s duty and responsibility,” she said.

Alongside emphasising voter participation, Garima also spoke about the family’s ongoing pursuit of justice following her husband’s death. She noted that they remain hopeful of a timely resolution as legal proceedings continue.

Garima Grag’s sister-in-law, Palme Borthakur, who accompanied her, echoed a similar sentiment, urging citizens to make informed choices. “Just stay aware and cast your vote using your own judgment. If you want a good government of your choice, that’s what matters,” she said.

The late singer had passed away in Singapore on September 19, and the case is currently being heard in a fast-track court after a chargesheet was filed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
