Assam Assembly Elections on April 9: 1.88 Lakh Personnel, Thousands of Booths Ready for Voting

Over 2.49 crore voters, 1.88 lakh polling personnel, and thousands of stations across districts underline scale of operations

Guwahati: The Assam Assembly Elections 2026 are witnessing a massive, multi-layered logistical exercise across districts, with 2,49,58,139 voters set to decide the fate of candidates across 126 constituencies.

In Dhubri, 12,20,384 voters will vote across 1,548 polling stations, including 285 char-area booths accessible only by boat. The district covers five constituencies: Dhubri, Gauripur, Golakganj, Birsing Jarua, and Bilasipara, where 33 candidates are in the fray. Authorities have also set up 26 all-women polling stations, while deploying around 14,500 personnel, supported by a large-scale kitchen with 1,000 workers and 110 cooks.

In Chamaria, polling teams navigated buses, mechanised boats, and tractors to reach 21 remote polling stations in areas like Batashidia, Kalatoli, Duramari, Shalmara, and Balagaon, covering nearly 10,000 voters.

Bongaigaon will see voting across 747 polling stations in three constituencies: Abhayapuri, Srijangram, and Bongaigaon, with 5,86,842 voters, including 2,96,757 men and 2,90,077 women. The district has set up 40 all-women booths and 3 model polling stations, with 15 candidates contesting.

In Kokrajhar, 7,08,805 voters (3,55,149 male, 3,53,649 female, 7 third gender) will vote across 944 polling stations, including 52 all-women booths and 5 model stations, with 4,172 polling personnel and 33 companies of security forces deployed.

Lakhimpur has 8,45,476 voters (including 9 third gender) across 1,079 polling stations, managed by 4,748 personnel, with 110 all-women booths, 859 vehicles, and 14 riverine polling stations.

In Dibrugarh, over 10 lakh voters will vote across 1,322 polling stations, including a record 300 all-women booths, all equipped with webcasting facilities.

Statewide, over 1,88,915 polling personnel, 2,524 micro-observers, 800 paramilitary companies, and more than 2,000 buses from West Bengal and Bihar have been deployed.

Despite terrain challenges from river islands to border regions, officials say all arrangements are in place to ensure smooth, inclusive, and secure polling on April 9.
