AGP likely to contest three constituencies; BJP candidate list expected after March 18 following key meetings in Delhi

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, March 14 indicated that the seat-sharing arrangement between the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and its ally Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) in Barak Valley has largely been finalised ahead of the upcoming elections.
According to the proposed arrangement, the AGP is expected to contest three constituencies in the region: Sonai, South Karimganj, and Algapur, while the BJP is likely to field candidates in the remaining ten seats across the valley.The Chief Minister asserts that discussions between the alliance partners are in the final stages, and a formal announcement could be made soon
Moreover, the BJP’s list of candidates for the upcoming elections is expected to be released after March 18. Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia said that crucial meetings of the party’s election committee and Parliamentary Board are scheduled in New Delhi around March 17, where the final names of candidates will be discussed.The meetings will involve senior party leaders and central decision-makers who will deliberate on candidate selection for the polls.
Adding to the political developments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Saturday evening. During his visit, he is scheduled to inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College on Sunday, a move expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand medical education opportunities in the region.
Shah will also attend a conference organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, focusing on youth mobilisation and organisational preparedness ahead of the elections.
