Road Projects and Embankment Restoration Boost Connectivity and Flood Protection in Dhemaji

New PMGSY-IV roads to improve rural connectivity; restored embankment protects Bhebeli Panchayat from flood threats

Dhemaji: Assam Cabinet Minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday laid the foundation stones for two rural road projects and inaugurated a key flood protection work in the Dhemaji constituency, aimed at strengthening connectivity and safeguarding vulnerable areas from flooding

The projects were initiated under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana–IV (PMGSY-IV) for the financial year 2025–26. The foundation stones were laid for two road projects in Uttar Dhemaji Panchayat, which are expected to significantly improve transportation facilities for residents in the area.

The first project involves the construction of a 0.932 km road from Majgaon to Tongnapara Nepali, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. The second project includes the development of a 2.5 km road from Majgaon Tini Ali to Amguri via Shantipur Daily Market, with a total cost of Rs 2.76 crore.

On the same occasion, the restoration of the flood-damaged section of the Ranganadi right-bank embankment measuring 1.4 km at Bhebeli Panchayat was also inaugurated. The embankment had been damaged during previous floods, posing a risk to nearby settlements.

With the completion of the restoration work, Bhebeli Gaon Panchayat is now better protected from flood threats posed by the Na-Nadi river. The project is expected to provide relief and greater security to residents during the monsoon season.

The initiatives form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve disaster resilience in Dhemaji district.
