The outgoing student leader, likely to join UPPL, reiterates efforts to build understanding between UPPL and BPF in BTC politics

Guwahati: Dipen Boro on Friday formally stepped down from the presidency of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), bringing to a close nearly 25 years of association with the influential student organisation.
Boro made the announcement while attending a farewell programme held at the auditorium of Udalguri College in Udalguri, where representatives of the student organisation from different parts of Assam gathered to mark the occasion.
Recalling his long journey in student politics, Boro became emotional and described the day as both memorable and significant as he bid farewell to his responsibilities in ABSU. The programme began with the hoisting of the union flag, followed by a floral tribute to Upendra Nath Brahma, popularly known as Bodofa. The tribute was offered by ABSU adviser Swmkhwr Basumatary, remembering Brahma’s vision and sacrifices for the Bodo community.
During the event, Boro congratulated Kwrwmdao Wary for being selected as the new in-charge president of ABSU. Boro expressed confidence that the organisation would continue to move forward with dedication and unity under the new leadership.
The programme concluded with a peace rally from Udalguri College to Golma Chowk, symbolising unity, peace and the continuing journey of the student movement.
Boro first joined ABSU in 2001 as a general member and later served as the organisation’s president for three terms, emerging as one of the prominent student leaders in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that Boro is likely to enter active politics soon and may formally join the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). Observers believe his move could influence political dynamics in the region, where rivalry continues between the UPPL and the Bodoland People’s Front.
