New facility aims to provide affordable specialised cancer care locally, alongside plans to expand medical education in Diphu

Diphu: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Wednesday, dedicated the state-of-the-art Diphu Cancer Centre to the people of Diphu, marking a major step in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Karbi Anglong.
Built at a cost of Rs 270 crore, the advanced facility is expected to significantly improve access to specialised and affordable oncology care in the region.
With the establishment of the centre, cancer patients from Karbi Anglong and nearby districts will no longer have to travel long distances for treatment, bringing critical healthcare services closer to home.

Officials said the centre will offer modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, helping improve early detection and effective management of cancer cases in the hill district.
The initiative reflects the continued efforts of the Government of Assam to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in remote and hill areas. Plans have also been announced to establish a BSc Nursing College in Diphu, which is expected to support medical education and strengthen healthcare services in the region.
