CM says welfare assistance follows strict eligibility criteria and is driven by compassion, not elections; credits Narendra Modi’s leadership for the BJP’s electoral success

Guwahati: : Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Orunodoi Scheme is a welfare initiative driven by compassion and is not connected to electoral considerations.
Speaking about the scheme, the Chief Minister said the government is implementing it in a careful and systematic manner by strictly following the eligibility criteria. According to him, the initiative focuses on families that are facing serious hardships.
The Chief Minister explained that widows, divorced women and women facing difficult circumstances are among the key beneficiaries identified under the scheme. “This is a scheme built with compassion. It is meant for people who genuinely need support,” he said.
Rejecting suggestions that the programme is linked to elections, Sarma said the initiative has been running for a long time and is implemented based on set guidelines rather than political considerations. “If it were meant for elections, everyone would have received it,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister further stated that electoral victories of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are due to the leadership of Narendra Modi and the party’s governance, and not because of the scheme. He also noted that welfare programmes exist under other political parties as well.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the objective of Orunodoi is to provide financial assistance and dignity to vulnerable households while ensuring that government support reaches those who need it the most.
