“As Long As Rakibul Hussain And Gaurav Gogoi Are in Congress, BJP Will Stay in Power,” Says Assam CM

Chief Minister calls the two Congress leaders “destructive politicians”, claims their presence benefits the BJP in Assam politics

Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Congress leaders Rakibul Hussain and Gaurav Gogoi, claiming that their continued presence in the Indian National Congress (INC) benefits the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam.

Speaking to the media, the Assam Chief Minister alleged that the two leaders are pulling the Congress party in different directions, which ultimately strengthens the BJP’s position in the state. He claimed that as long as Rakibul Hussain and Gaurav Gogoi remain in Congress, the BJP government will continue to remain in power in Assam.

The Chief Minister further compared the situation with national politics, remarking that just as the presence of Rahul Gandhi in Congress benefits Narendra Modi politically, the continued role of Hussain and Gogoi works to the advantage of the BJP in Assam.

The Chief Minister further described the two Congress leaders as “destructive politicians”, accusing them of damaging their own party’s prospects. The CM claims he had rarely seen such political behaviour during his career. He alleged that their politics had been directed against him and was driven by pride, ego and arrogance.

The Chief Minister criticised the Congress for not accommodating regional allies, referring to Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal. He said that if Congress had given at least two seats to the party, the electoral contest could have been stronger.
