Biggest DBT Move in Assam: Rs 3,600 Cr Under ‘Orunodoi’ Transferred To 40 Lakh Families

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma transfers Rs 3,600 crore to 40 lakh families under Orunodoi, providing Rs 9,000 each to strengthen women-led households

Guwahati: Calling it the largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in Assam’s history, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma transferred Rs 3,600 crore directly into the bank accounts of 40 lakh beneficiary families under the Orunodoi Scheme.

Under the initiative, Rs 9,000 each was credited to beneficiary households, most of which are headed by women. The Chief Minister asserts the move is aimed at strengthening women-led families and ensuring financial security and dignity for beneficiaries across the state.

Marking the occasion, women beneficiaries from different parts of Assam joined the central programme virtually through more than 3,800 public events organised at Gaon Panchayats, Autonomous Council constituencies, Village Development Committees and Urban Ward Committees.

Officials said the large-scale participation highlighted the extensive reach of the Orunodoi scheme, which continues to remain one of the Assam government’s flagship welfare programmes focused on supporting economically vulnerable households.

Moreover, on the same occasion, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated five District Science Centres at Amin Gaon, Majuli, Silchar, Kaliabor and Bongaigaon. The centres are equipped with science galleries, digital planetariums and auditoriums aimed at promoting scientific learning and engagement among students.

The programmes underlined the state government’s continued focus on women-centric welfare policies and direct financial assistance through DBT, while the newly inaugurated science centres are expected to nurture scientific temperament and inspire the next generation of innovators across Assam.
