Swift police action foils major drug smuggling attempt as Assam intensifies its zero-tolerance campaign against narcotics

Guwahati: Reinforcing its crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police seized 1,10,000 Yaba tablets during a targeted operation under Dholai Police Station limits. The contraband was recovered after officials intercepted a truck, leading to the apprehension of two individuals.
Reacting to the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the prompt and coordinated action of the police, reiterating the state government’s uncompromising stance against the drug trade. He noted that while some medicines heal, others destroy lives, and assured that enforcement agencies will continue working relentlessly to keep Assam free from narcotics.

The latest operation forms part of a broader statewide drive that has seen frequent raids, interceptions along highways, and tighter surveillance at inter-district and border points. Over the past months, multiple consignments of illegal substances have been seized, reflecting the administration’s sustained focus on dismantling trafficking networks.
Authorities maintain that consistent enforcement, community awareness, and intelligence-based policing remain central to protecting youth and strengthening public safety across the state.
