360 grams of narcotics hidden in soap boxes recovered during Gorchuk Police raid; supply traced to Mizoram

Guwahati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Guwahati Police seized 360 grams of heroin worth an estimated Rs 2 crore and arrested two persons during a targeted raid at Ananda Nagar under Gorchuk Police Station.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Gorchuk Police Station carried out the operation and uncovered a large consignment of heroin cleverly concealed inside 30 soap boxes. The suspects were caught red-handed during the raid, police informed.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shahrukh Ahmed of Amariya, Barpeta, and Jainul Khan of Rahampur, Barpeta. Officials also recovered and seized three mobile phones, including an iPhone, from their possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics consignment had been smuggled from Champhai in Mizoram and transported into Assam for distribution. The seized drugs are estimated to have a black market value exceeding Rs 2 crore.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the operation in a social media post, stating, “SOAP of sin, busted within.” He praised the swift action by the Guwahati Police and reiterated the government’s firm stance against drug trafficking. “Swift action, Strong message – zero tolerance,” he said.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the law.
The latest seizure underscores intensified efforts by Assam Police to crack down on drug smuggling networks and curb the flow of narcotics into the state.
