The Assam Chief Minister targets the Congress–Raijor Dal understanding, reaffirms NDA unity, and signals major political disclosures at a press conference scheduled for February 8

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 2 intensified the political narrative ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, launching a strong attack on the reported Congress-Raijor Dal understanding and asserting that the Opposition alliance has ‘no future’ in Assam.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event marking the inauguration of new school buildings, the Chief Minister announced a major press conference on February 8, which he said would unveil significant revelations involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
The Chief Minister clarified that the proposed briefing would go beyond earlier references to Gogoi’s alleged ‘Pakistan link’ and would instead expose what he described as an ‘entire network.’ He claimed the disclosures would fundamentally alter the political discourse in the state.
Dismissing the Congress-Raijor Dal tie-up, the Chief Minister remarked that Opposition leaders were free to form a government but only in “Pakistan or Bangladesh,” but categorically ruled out their prospects in Assam.
Furthermore, he stated that Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi could not form a government in the state even after 500 years. He states, “Akhil Gogoi’s government will never come to power in Assam, not even in the next five hundred years”
Reaffirming the strength of the ruling alliance, the Chief Minister added that there was no difference between the BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), underlining their shared commitment within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He asserted that irrespective of electoral outcomes, the NDA would form the next government in Assam, with the Chief Ministerial post remaining with the BJP.
On seat-sharing arrangements, Sarma confirmed that discussions with AGP leaders, including Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, were ongoing and nearing conclusion.
With sharp rhetoric and the February 8 press conference positioned as a political flashpoint, Assam’s electoral battle is set to intensify in the coming days.
