New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the media ahead of the start of the Budget Session of Parliament 2026, describing the President’s Address as a confident articulation of the hopes, hard work, and aspirations of 140 crore Indians. He stated that the address offered clear guidance to Members of Parliament at the very outset of the year, making the Budget Session particularly significant.

The Prime Minister said that the Budget Session marks the start of the second quarter of the 21st century, a very important period in India’s journey to become a developed nation by 2047. He also said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present her ninth consecutive Union Budget, which is a “proud moment in the history of the Indian Parliament.”

Referring to global developments, Shri Modi said the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement signals a strong and confident start to this new phase. Describing it as the ‘Mother of All Deals,’ he said the agreement opens vast opportunities for India’s youth, farmers, fishermen, manufacturers, and service providers by providing access to a large market across 27 EU nations. He urged Indian industry to focus on quality and competitiveness, noting that global trust and brand value would follow excellence.

Reiterating the government’s core approach, the Prime Minister said its identity remains ‘Reform, Perform, Transform,’ with India now moving rapidly on what he termed the ‘Reform Express.’ He emphasised long-term solutions, predictability, and human-centric governance, even as the country embraces technology.

Highlighting India’s democracy and demography as a global beacon of hope, PM Modi called on Parliament to prioritise solutions, empowering decisions, and accelerated reforms, stating that the present moment demands resolution, not disruption.
