Veteran Actress Malaya Goswami to be Honoured with Bhaben Baruah Award 2026

The veteran actress will receive the award, comprising a cash prize, citation and traditional honours, at Nalbari Natya Mandir on September 3

Guwahati: Veteran Assamese actress Malaya Goswami has been selected for the Bhaben Baruah Award 2026 in recognition of her lifelong contribution to Assamese cinema, theatre and the state’s cultural heritage.

The award, instituted by the Nalbari District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), commemorates the legacy of noted theatre personality Bhaben Baruah. Since its inception in 2009, it has honoured individuals who have made significant contributions to Assam’s art, literature and cultural landscape.

The Bhaben Baruah Award carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, along with a citation, memento, xorai, gamosa and cheleng.

Goswami will receive the honour on September 3 at Nalbari Natya Mandir during the second day of the Bhaben Baruah All Assam Children’s Drama Competition, an annual event aimed at promoting young theatre talent and preserving Assam’s rich performing arts tradition.

The award recognises Goswami’s decades-long contribution to Assamese films and theatre, as well as her enduring influence on the state’s cultural and artistic landscape.
