The party denied claims of undermining the Indo-Naga peace talks and called for unity among stakeholders as differences resurfaced over key political and resource-related issues

Dimapur: The war of words over the Naga peace process intensified, with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) strongly rejecting allegations made by the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) and calling for greater unity among Naga stakeholders.
Responding to a recent statement by the WC-NNPG, the NPF dismissed accusations that it had undermined the Indo-Naga peace process and compromised Naga interests on issues ranging from the oil exploration memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the transfer of former interlocutor R.N. Ravi.
The party said the Naga political issue goes beyond individual leaders, organisations and political parties, and cautioned against creating divisions at a time when collective efforts are needed to address pressing challenges facing the Naga people.
Rejecting allegations that it prevented members of the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation from meeting the Prime Minister, the NPF described the claim as “false” and maintained that Gaon Buras should remain focused on their traditional responsibilities related to village administration and customary governance.
The party also denied having any role in the transfer of R.N. Ravi, stating that the appointment and transfer of Government of India representatives are decisions taken solely by the Centre.
On the June 11 oil exploration MoU signed between India, Assam and Nagaland, the NPF acknowledged public concerns over ownership of natural resources but argued that the matter must be viewed within the broader context of the long-standing Assam-Nagaland boundary dispute.
Recalling a consultative meeting convened by the Nagaland government in September 2024, the NPF said participants had unanimously urged the Centre to appoint a political-level interlocutor with full authority to advance negotiations.
“The Naga people do not want endless debate. They want a just, honourable, acceptable and inclusive political solution that protects their history, identity, rights and future,” the party said.
