Polling for Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies in Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 23, with counting scheduled for October 27
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for biennial elections to the Legislative Councils of Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies.
Polling for the elections will be held on October 23, 2026, while counting of votes will take place on October 27. The elections are being held to fill seats falling vacant in the respective Legislative Councils as part of the biennial electoral cycle.
The polls will cover constituencies representing graduates and teachers, with the electoral process to be conducted under the Commission’s prescribed election procedures.
The announcement comes as the Election Commission manages several Council of States and State Legislative Council elections during 2026. The Commission has also outlined arrangements for nominations, scrutiny, withdrawals, polling and counting for elections under its supervision.
The Model Code of Conduct will apply in the poll-bound areas from the announcement of the election schedule, with election observers and officials overseeing the process. The Legislative Council polls will take place alongside other electoral exercises scheduled by the Commission this year.
