Mahanta reviewed relief measures in Samaguri and proposed a highland and possible embankment to protect vulnerable areas from recurring floods
Nagaon: Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta visited several flood-affected areas under the Samaguri Revenue Circle in Nagaon district to assess the situation and review ongoing relief measures.
Mahanta visited Goru Mara, Bhomora Guri and Era Kalong, among other flood-hit areas, and interacted with residents to understand the extent of inundation and the assistance being provided by the administration. He also visited temporary relief camps and spoke with displaced residents about the availability of essential supplies and other relief support.
During his visit to Kalapani village, Mahanta announced plans to construct a highland on vacant government land to provide residents with a safer and elevated place to take shelter during floods.
The minister said several areas of the Kaliabor constituency remained inundated, particularly near the confluence of the Diju River and a channel of the Kolong River. He said the government would consult local residents and conduct a detailed assessment to explore the construction of an embankment in vulnerable areas to address recurring flood-related problems.
Mahanta’s visit came as parts of Nagaon continued to remain affected by floodwaters, with authorities carrying out relief distribution and assessing damage across the affected areas.
