President Lula’s Visit to India Expected Soon as India–Brazil Ties Gain Momentum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Lula’s talks underline Global South cooperation and push for reformed multilateralism in India

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, during which both leaders reasserted their commitment to enhancing the Indo-Brazilian Strategic Partnership and advancing shared issues for the Global South. While speaking to President Lula, Prime Minister Modi expressed his eagerness to host President Lula in India in the near future. 

The official statement added that during the discussion, both sides emphasised the increasing momentum in bilateral relations and the need for close cooperation to address global challenges. 

Posting on X, the Prime Minister of India said that the strategic partnership with Brazil is “poised to scale new heights in the year ahead,” adding that strong collaboration between the two nations was essential for advancing the shared interests of the Global South. 

The two leaders also discussed various key issues relating to the region and the world. Both leaders, recalling their meetings last year in Brasilia, Brazil, and South Africa, observed that a lot of groundwork had been done in mutual interests like trade, technology, defence, energy, healthcare, agriculture, etc. 

India and Brazil, both major emerging economies and influential voices of the world, are significant players in the Global South. Both countries are working extensively at various international stages to encourage the causes of an ‘inclusive growth strategy’ and ‘sustainable development’ in the context of global diplomatic affairs.  

The visit of the Brazilian President-elect to India is expected to further strengthen the two countries’ relations as well as expand coordination between the two countries on global issues, particularly those affecting developing and emerging economies.
