Shillong: As part of a massive crackdown on illegal cross-border movement, the West Jaintia Hills police conducted a joint operation, resulting in the arrest of 18 Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts along the India-Bangladesh border, further emphasising the district’s stiff stand against illegal border crossing.

The West Jaintia Hills Police Special Team operates in close coordination with the Headman and Village Defence Party (VDP) of Demthring village in the early hours of the day. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the police targeted vehicles believed to be carrying undocumented foreign nationals from Jowai towards Dawki, near the India-Bangladesh border.

During the initial phase of the operation, the police intercepted a vehicle with the registration number ML-04D/7339 close to Sanmala Guest House, Amlarem, after a short chase from Lad Demthring.
