Sriram Raghavan’s film Ikkis opens well on New Year holiday; weekend growth crucial for ₹60-crore project

Guwahati: Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra, Simar Bhatia and Jaideep Ahlawat, registered a fair opening at the box office but witnessed a sharp drop on its second day.
The film collected ₹7 crore on its release day on January 1, which coincided with the New Year holiday and helped boost initial footfalls. However, on Friday, day two of its release, collections fell by around 50 per cent. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Ikkis earned ₹3.50 crore on Friday, taking its total two-day collection to ₹10.50 crore.
While the numbers are moderate, trade observers stated that the performance is neither poor nor particularly strong at this stage. As positive critical reviews and encouraging word of mouth has been received, the film is expected to see a rise in collections over the weekend.
Reportedly made on a budget of around ₹60 crore, Ikkis will need sustained growth over Saturday and Sunday, followed by steady weekday collections, to remain viable at the box office.
The film has received favourable reviews from critics. The Free Press Journal rated it 3.5 stars, describing it as a compelling portrayal of the true story of a 21-year-old’s bravery and sacrifice for the nation.
The movie Ikkis also holds special significance as it is the final film appearance of veteran actor Dharmendra. Ahead of the release, his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol hosted a special screening for members of the media and the film industry. Many fans have described the experience of watching Dharmendra on the big screen for the last time as deeply emotional.
