Hotel Bilas Inn Shootout: SIT Gets Gun Licence, Summons Accused’s Wife

The investigation team has paused its planned crime scene reconstruction as it examines documents and evidence in the shooting that killed five people and injured one

Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Hotel Bilas Inn shootout in Guwahati has obtained the arms licence for accused Ghanakanta Gogoi’s pistol and summoned his wife, Junmoni Gogoi, for questioning on Sunday, November 1.

Junmoni has been asked to appear at Paltan Bazar Police Station with documents relevant to the case and keys to vehicles linked to the investigation. The SIT has temporarily deferred its planned crime scene reconstruction while focusing on document verification and evidence collection.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has transferred three officers associated with the six-member SIT, including DCP (Central) Shambhavi Mishra, Additional DCP Viku L Achumi and Paltan Bazar police station OC Kuleshjyoti Bhuyan. Several other senior police officers have also been reassigned.

The October 26 shooting at the hotel in Guwahati’s Bora Service area claimed five lives: Helena Bharali, Bhudev Bharali, Debarshi Kashyap, Rinika Kashyap and Narayan Das. Satyendra Pathak was injured.

Police suspect a dispute over the hotel’s lease and management may have led to the shooting. Gogoi, the hotel’s leaseholder, remains in police custody as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
