26-year-old prime accused sustains two bullet injuries to right leg during alleged escape attempt in Guwahati’s Dharapur

Guwahati: Ashik Ali, the 26-year-old prime accused in the Nimisha Thakuria murder case, sustained two bullet injuries to his right leg during a police firing incident in Guwahati’s Dharapur in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:30 am when Ali allegedly attempted to escape while being taken into custody for investigation.
Ali was initially taken to Garal Primary Health Centre for preliminary treatment before being shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he arrived at around 5:35 am.
GMCH authorities said Ali had suffered two through-and-through gunshot wounds to his right leg, affecting the knee and ankle. One bullet entered from the back of the knee and exited through the front, causing minor impact to the femur. The second entered the outer side of the ankle and exited through the inner side near the calf.
GMCH Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent (in-charge) Dr Devajit Choudhury said examinations found no injuries to Ali’s abdomen, brain or hands. Major blood vessels and nerves in the injured leg were also found to be intact.
CT scans and abdominal ultrasound examinations reportedly revealed no additional internal injuries. Doctors applied plaster casts and admitted Ali to the orthopaedics ward for treatment and infection prevention.
Hospital authorities said Ali’s condition is stable and non-critical, while clarifying that they had no direct knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the police firing.
