“What Has VPP Changed?”: Prestone Tynsong Challenges Party Over KHADC Record

Meghalaya Deputy CM accuses VPP of misleading voters through social media and questions its record in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council

Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has stepped up his attack on the Voice of the People Party (VPP), questioning what development the party has delivered since taking charge of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

Addressing an NPP campaign rally at Wahlyngkhat in Pynursla for Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Dr DRL Nonglait, Tynsong said voters should question the VPP about its record. “What is the change? Please give an answer. What is the change?” he said.

Tynsong also claimed that social media had influenced the 2024 Lok Sabha and 2025 ADC election results through what he described as false and misleading narratives. He alleged that the VPP had benefited from such campaigns, urging voters to assess its work rather than social media claims.

He further criticised the VPP over its attempt to amend the Land Act, arguing that the proposed changes could affect traditional institutions including the Dorbar Shnong, Dorbar Raid and Dorbar Hima. Tynsong said the public should judge the issue for themselves.

The remarks came during campaigning for the Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll, with Tynsong urging voters in Pynursla to support the NPP candidate.
