Congress MP was campaigning for party candidate Sibamoni Bora in Khatowal ahead of the October 6 Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll

Samaguri: Congress MP Rakibul Hussain faced a fresh protest in Assam’s Samaguri on Monday when a group of people displayed black cloth and raised “Go Back Rakibul Hussain” slogans during his campaign for party candidate Sibamoni Bora.
The protest took place in the North Khatowal area as Hussain arrived to campaign for Bora, who is contesting the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election on a Congress ticket.
Protesters also raised slogans against Bora and Hussain’s son, Samaguri MLA Tanzil Hussain, with some alleging that the “dadagiri” of the father-son duo would not be accepted in Samaguri. The allegations were made by protesters and have not been independently verified.
Subsequently, on September 21, a Congress convoy carrying Hussain, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi and Bora faced black-flag protests and alleged stone-pelting in the Barma area. Six people were subsequently arrested in connection with that incident, according to Nagaon Police.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled for October 6, with Bora contesting for Congress against candidates including BJP’s Devasish Sharma and AIUDF’s Badruddin Ajmal.
