Manipur Border Killings: Survivor Accuses KNA-B of Killing Four Tangkhul Civilians

Lone survivor says armed cadres opened fire at a border settlement in Kamjong district after residents evacuated amid militant threats

Imphal: A survivor of the Pilong village killings in Manipur’s Kamjong district has accused the Myanmar-based Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) of carrying out the attack that killed four Tangkhul Naga civilians on Thursday.

The survivor, identified as Kaping from Hunphun village, recounted the incident during a condolence service at Kamjong headquarters on September 25.

According to Kaping, five civilians had remained at the border settlement to guard the village after women, children and other residents fled following threats from militants. The group later split up, with four men resting at a location with mobile network coverage while Kaping went to a nearby house.

He said he suddenly heard gunfire from close range and fled into the adjoining jungle. Kaping alleged that the attackers stayed in the village for nearly an hour after the shootings, apparently waiting for other residents to return.

After the armed group withdrew, he returned and found his four companions dead before fleeing towards the hills, where Tangkhul civil society representatives rescued him.

Kaping later informed villagers and law enforcement authorities. He also said acquaintances across the Myanmar border subsequently confirmed the alleged involvement of the KNA-B.
