Nyishi students’ body escalates agitation after a 12-hour Itanagar shutdown, seeking upgrades to schools and higher education institutions

Itanagar: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) on Thursday announced a 48-hour bandh across seven Nyishi-inhabited districts of Arunachal Pradesh from September 28, escalating its agitation over education infrastructure.
ANSU president Ashok Doka said the shutdown would be enforced if the state government fails to address the union’s demands and grievances. The students’ body has been seeking the renovation and upgradation of 56 identified schools, along with improvements to higher educational institutions in Nyishi-inhabited areas.
The student body demands also include establishing a special-needs school in Pakke Kessang, developing Toru Engineering College and improving Late Neelam Taram Government College.
The latest bandh call comes after ANSU observed a 12-hour shutdown in the Itanagar Capital Region on September 24 over the same issues. Although the state government has held discussions with the union, ANSU has maintained that its demands remain unresolved.
The proposed 48-hour bandh marks a further escalation, with the students’ organisation calling for concrete action on education infrastructure across the affected districts.
The shutdown is scheduled to begin on September 28 if the government does not address the union’s demands.
