Houses were damaged in both incidents as residents mounted rescue efforts amid fears of further landslides
Guwahati: At least five people were injured in two separate landslide incidents in Jorabat and Sonapur near Guwahati amid incessant rainfall, with several others narrowly escaping.
In 12 Mile near Jorabat, a portion of a hillside collapsed, sending earth and debris into a residential property. The impact damaged a wall of the house and injured two people, including Moon Das. Several residents reportedly had narrow escapes as the debris hit the property.
Another landslide was reported at Maupur in Sonapur, where earth and debris from a hillside came down onto a residential house, causing significant damage.
Three people, including a woman and a child, were injured in the Sonapur incident. They were identified as Chandra Marak (35), Sunita Sangma (25) and Rikonacha Sangma (7).
Local residents immediately launched rescue efforts and evacuated all five injured people before taking them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns among residents living in the hilly areas of Jorabat and Sonapur, where continuous rainfall has increased the risk of further slope failures and landslides.
