Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for additional support to strengthen rural housing and agriculture in Assam
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 26 met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, with the Centre approving 3,86,507 houses for the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The CM also said Assam has received Rs 140 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
The Chief Minister said the Union minister assured further assistance for houses damaged by floods, particularly in flood-affected areas. The additional support is expected to help families rebuild homes and strengthen rural housing infrastructure.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) approval is expected to provide housing assistance to lakhs of families across the state, while the additional assurance for flood-damaged houses comes as Assam continues to face recurring floods and displacement.
The announcements are being seen as a significant boost to Assam’s rural housing and agricultural sectors, with the state government seeking continued central assistance for communities affected by natural disasters.
