Assam youths stranded in Shillong amid tension seek help as Assam Police activates helplines for stranded people and vehicles
Guwahati: Several youths from Rupahihat in Assam’s Nagaon district have reportedly been stranded in Shillong after travelling to Meghalaya for medical treatment amid a tense situation in the city.
The youths said they have been staying inside their hotel due to concerns over their safety. They alleged that vehicles bearing Assam registration numbers were being vandalised in parts of Shillong, making them afraid to venture outside.
The stranded youths have shared videos on social media appealing for assistance and informing their families about their situation. They also alleged that hotel room rents have increased amid the tension, making it difficult for them to extend their stay. Their families have urged the Assam government to intervene and facilitate their safe return to the state.
Meanwhile, the Assam government, through Assam Police, has activated dedicated helplines to assist people from Assam stranded in Meghalaya or facing difficulties while travelling there.
Family members can share details including the stranded person’s name, contact number, vehicle registration number and current location for coordination with Meghalaya authorities.
