Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urges youth to embrace farming as the state offers Rs 1 lakh support to 10,000 young agri-innovators
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the state’s young people to take a fresh look at agriculture, calling on them to turn innovative ideas into viable farming ventures.
In a message aimed at the youth who may view farming as an unrewarding career, the Chief Minister said, “Making Agriculture Cool Again!”, highlighting the government’s plan to support 10,000 young agri-innovators over the next five years.
Under the initiative, each selected agri-innovator will receive Rs 1 lakh in financial assistance to help transform new ideas into agricultural enterprises. The move is particularly aimed at attracting educated and technology-oriented youth to farming and agri-business.
“Time to get your hands dirty!” the Chief Minister said, presenting agriculture as a field where young people can combine technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The state is also seeking to recognise young farmers who are adopting modern methods. As part of this effort, 1,000 young farmers and agri-innovators will receive the Krishi Utkarsh Award this year for technology-driven and innovative farming practices.
Alongside the youth-focused initiatives, the Assam government is pursuing investments in regional irrigation infrastructure to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen rural livelihoods.
