Shrinkhal Chaliha accused the government of failing to respond adequately to the flood crisis and said his organisation would continue collecting relief materials
Guwahati: Bir Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha has challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal to organisations and individuals to stop collecting flood relief materials, saying his organisation will continue gathering assistance for flood-hit people in Sivasagar.
Chaliha accused the government of failing to adequately respond to the crisis and urged the administration to act responsibly. “Stop playing around and making fun at a time of crisis. The government should act responsibly,” Chaliha said.
Taking aim at the Sivasagar district administration, he alleged that the Deputy Commissioner was ignoring the plight of flood-affected residents. “The DC is keeping his eyes shut. We will continue collecting flood relief. We cannot leave the people of Sivasagar in distress,” he said.
Chaliha’s remarks came as severe flooding continues to affect parts of Assam, leaving thousands in need of food, drinking water, medicines and other essentials. Despite the Chief Minister’s appeal against independent collection of relief materials, Chaliha said Bir Lachit Sena would continue its grassroots relief efforts. “We cannot abandon the people of Sivasagar in their time of crisis,” he said.
Chaliha statement sets up a direct confrontation with the government’s appeal, with the organisation maintaining that relief collection must continue as long as flood-affected communities remain in need.
