Golaghat remains the worst-hit district with 54,085 affected people, while Sivasagar has the highest number of residents staying in relief camps
Guwahati: Assam’s flood-related death toll has risen to 97, even as the overall flood situation continued to show gradual improvement, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday.
Despite receding waters in several areas, floods continue to affect 15 districts, 39 revenue circles and 481 villages across the state. The Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh remains above the danger level, while no river is currently flowing above its highest flood level.
According to ASDMA, 1,68,701 people remain affected, while 14,382.26 hectares of agricultural land continue to remain inundated.
Golaghat is the worst-hit district with 54,085 affected people, followed by Sivasagar with 49,515, Jorhat with 27,842 and Charaideo with 21,486.
The state government has established 133 relief facilities, including 50 relief camps and 83 relief distribution centres. As many as 10,111 people are currently staying in relief camps, while another 35,596 are receiving assistance through distribution centres.
Sivasagar has the highest number of relief camp inmates at 7,005, followed by Jorhat with 1,270 and Nagaon with 1,016.
Floodwaters continue to affect roads, agricultural land and other infrastructure in several areas. Authorities are monitoring river levels while continuing relief, restoration and damage assessment operations across the affected districts.
