Guwahati: The Assam government has announced a reshuffle in the state police administration, appointing senior Assam Police Service (APS) officer Sushanta Biswa Sarma as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Barpeta.
According to a notification issued by the Home (A) Department, the 2002-batch APS officer has been transferred from his current post as Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Against Women and Children (CID). His new posting will take effect from the date he assumes charge in Barpeta.
The reshuffle follows the transfer of IPS officer Pushkin Jain, who has been selected for central deputation and will join the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.
As part of the administrative changes, Marylyn Zawlsangmawi, a 2010-batch APS officer, has been appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (In-charge) of the CID’s Crime Against Women and Children wing. She was previously serving as Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Bongaigaon.
Zawlsangmawi will take over the specialised CID unit following Sarma’s transfer, ensuring continuity in investigations related to crimes against women and children.
The latest transfers are part of the Assam government’s routine administrative exercise aimed at strengthening policing and ensuring the efficient functioning of both district police and specialised investigative units.
