More than 1.6 lakh people across 563 villages remain affected, while relief teams continue rescue, rehabilitation and infrastructure restoration in flood-hit districts
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed gradual improvement on Wednesday, but the death toll rose to 95, with over 1.6 lakh people continuing to remain affected across 14 districts, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The daily flood report said 1,60,653 people in 563 villages under 38 revenue circles remain affected in Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Darrang, Karbi Anglong and Udalguri.
According to the Central Water Commission’s 8 am bulletin, the Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh was the only river flowing above the danger level, while no river was above its highest flood level.
Sivasagar remained the worst-hit district with 57,243 affected people, followed by Golaghat (33,871), Jorhat (24,923) and Charaideo (22,122). Floodwaters continued to affect 16,951.76 hectares of agricultural land.
Relief efforts remained underway, with 104 relief camps and distribution centres operational. A total of 12,356 people are staying in relief camps, while 32,048 others have received assistance outside camps.
Authorities deployed 76 boats, rescued 491 people and 20 animals, and continued distributing essential relief materials. The floods have also damaged 22 roads, two bridges, several embankments, and 342 houses, while 35,025 livestock have been affected. One person remains missing.
