Eligible families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive compensation for livestock losses, while veterinary health camps will be organised to support surviving animals
Guwahati: The Assam government has announced financial assistance for livestock lost in the recent floods across Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms.
Eligible families will receive Rs 37,500 for each large milch animal, including cows, subject to a maximum of three animals. Compensation of Rs 4,000 per animal will be provided for up to 30 goats or pigs, while Rs 100 per bird will be paid for the loss of up to 100 poultry birds.
The assistance forms part of the state’s broader flood rehabilitation package aimed at helping families rebuild livelihoods severely affected by the disaster. The government said the support would particularly benefit rural households dependent on dairy farming, livestock rearing and poultry.
To safeguard surviving animals, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department will also organise veterinary health camps across affected areas to provide treatment and prevent disease outbreaks. The government has begun assessing livestock losses and said compensation will be released to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with SDRF guidelines.
The livestock relief comes in addition to other flood rehabilitation measures, including Rs 15,000 interim assistance for eligible families, an extra Rs 10,000 for affected households in Sivasagar and Charaideo, financial aid for damaged houses and crop losses, and support for restoring livelihoods.
