Authorities have launched rescue and road-clearing operations as continuous rainfall triggers fresh landslides across Arunachal Pradesh.
Itanagar: A major landslide triggered by incessant rainfall blocked the Seppa–Itanagar road in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, with a vehicle feared buried under mud and debris near Zero Block Point, close to Seppa.
According to preliminary reports, a large section of the hillside collapsed after heavy rain, sending rocks, mud and debris crashing onto the road and completely cutting off the key route connecting Seppa in East Kameng district with the state capital, Itanagar.
Officials said a vehicle was caught in the landslide and is believed to be trapped beneath the debris. However, the number of occupants has not yet been confirmed, and authorities have not reported any casualties or injuries so far.
Rescue teams and road-clearing agencies have been mobilised to search for the buried vehicle, assess the damage and restore traffic movement. Officials are also inspecting the area for the risk of further landslides before allowing vehicles to use the route again.
Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed persistent rainfall over the past several days, leading to multiple landslides and road disruptions across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rain, urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant.
