Internal RAF inquiry examines alleged pellet gun use during the Jantar Mantar protest, while a Bihar constable has been suspended after a viral video purportedly showed him firing an AK-47 during demonstrations
New Delhi: The use of pellet guns by Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel during the July 20 student protest at Jantar Mantar has come under scrutiny after an internal inquiry found that several officers were issued pump-action pellet guns before the demonstration.
The probe follows allegations that at least five civilians suffered pellet injuries. Investigators are examining whether standard operating procedures were violated, while CRPF has directed personnel to display visible name tags and reiterated service rules after identifying procedural lapses.
Separately, a Bihar Police constable has been suspended after a viral video allegedly showed him firing an AK-47 during the July 25 Bihar Bandh protest over the alleged NEET paper leak. Constable Abhishek Patel has been suspended pending a departmental inquiry, while a PIL seeking a judicial probe has been filed in the Supreme Court.
Three people injured during the incident are undergoing treatment, and officials said there were no orders permitting police to open fire. Authorities are investigating whether established protocols were violated.
