Institute expresses condolences, extends support to the student’s family and reiterates its commitment to student wellbeing as police investigate the incident
Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has expressed profound grief over the death of a third-year BTech student, describing the incident as a “profound loss” to the institute. It said it is extending all possible support to the student’s family while fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
In an official statement, the institute said the student’s parents are on their way to the campus and that authorities remain in close contact with the family. It urged students, staff and the public to refrain from speculation until the investigation is complete.
Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, IIT Guwahati highlighted its mental health support system, including the SAATHI Counselling Club, the Centre for Holistic Wellbeing, licensed counsellors, psychiatrists and 24-hour online counselling services. The institute also provides mandatory counselling sessions, peer mentorship and orientation programmes to help students adjust to campus life.
Urging students to seek timely help during emotional distress, IIT Guwahati said no student should have to face personal challenges alone and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a supportive campus environment.
