CID Raids BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri’s Residence in Assam Fisheries Recruitment Scam Probe

Former Assam Fisheries Development Corporation chairman summoned for questioning as investigators intensify scrutiny of alleged appointment irregularities

Guwahati: The Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stepped up its investigation into the alleged recruitment scam in the Assam Fisheries Development Corporation (AFDC), conducting a search operation at the residence of BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri in Morigaon district.

The action comes as part of a wider probe into alleged irregularities in appointments made during Deuri’s tenure as chairman of the corporation. In addition to the search, the CID has issued a summons directing the legislator to appear before investigators for questioning.

Sources familiar with the investigation said officials are examining recruitment records, administrative documents and other materials linked to appointments that have come under scrutiny. The agency is attempting to establish whether established procedures were bypassed and identify those responsible for any alleged wrongdoing.

Deuri, who previously headed the AFDC, is considered a key figure in the ongoing inquiry. Investigators are expected to question him regarding decisions taken during the recruitment process and the circumstances surrounding the appointments under investigation.

Meanwhile, the case has triggered political attention across Assam, with various stakeholders closely watching developments. However, officials have maintained that the investigation is being conducted strictly on the basis of evidence and in accordance with legal procedures.

The CID is expected to continue its examination of documents and testimonies as it seeks to determine the full extent of the alleged recruitment irregularities. Further action may follow based on the findings of the probe.
