Special Intensive Revision exercise will cover 36.73 crore voters, with lakhs of booth-level officials conducting door-to-door verification

New Delhi: Election Commission of India on May 14 announced the phased rollout of the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories beginning May 30.
According to the Commission, the exercise will cover nearly 36.73 crore electors and involve large-scale door-to-door verification to update voter records ahead of future elections.
The states and Union Territories included in this phase are Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Tripura and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The EC said more than 3.94 lakh booth level officers will conduct household visits during the revision process. Additionally, 3.42 lakh booth level agents nominated by political parties will assist during enumeration.
Meanwhile, the schedule for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will be announced later due to weather conditions in snow-bound areas.
