TMC leader raises concerns over EVM handling, voter disenfranchisement and post-poll violence in West Bengal

Kolkata: Abhishek Banerjee alleged large-scale irregularities in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, claiming that nearly “30 lakh genuine voters” were allegedly removed from the electoral rolls during the poll process.
In a detailed statement posted on social media, the Trinamool Congress leader accused several government agencies and the Election Commission of India of acting in a “deeply partisan” manner during the elections. He said the developments had raised serious questions over the “fairness, credibility and transparency” of the electoral process in the state.
Banerjee also questioned the handling and movement of EVMs and Control Units during counting. Referring to reports of mismatched Control Units and alleged irregularities in vote counting, he demanded the release of CCTV footage from counting centres along with a transparent counting of VVPAT slips.
“I have already demanded the release of CCTV FOOTAGE FROM THE COUNTING CENTRES and a transparent counting of VVPAT slips so that the truth can come before the people”, he wrote.
The TMC MP further expressed concern over incidents of post-poll violence, alleging that party workers and supporters had faced intimidation, attacks and threats after the election results.
“No political worker in a democracy should ever have to choose between their safety and their political beliefs,” Banerjee stated, while calling for accountability and restoration of public trust in democratic institutions.
