Charan Boro Wins Mazbat Seat: Secures Decisive Victory For BPF

BPF leader defeats multi-cornered field as all 16 rounds conclude; improves on past performance in key Assam constituency

Udalguri: Charan Boro of the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) has secured a decisive victory in the Mazbat (47) Assembly constituency in Assam, reaffirming his stronghold in the region. According to final results declared after all 16 rounds of counting, Boro polled 84,718 votes, comfortably defeating his nearest rival Ashok Gayari of the Voters Party International, who secured 55,546 votes.

The contest featured multiple candidates, including Narayan Adhikari of the Indian National Congress (INC), Priti Rekha Barla of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and Rabindra Basumatary of the United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL). However, Boro maintained a clear lead throughout the counting process, reflecting sustained voter support.

Notably, this victory builds on Boro’s previous success in the 2021 Assembly elections, where he had won the seat by a margin of 16,057 votes. In that election, BJP candidate Jitu Kissan had finished as the runner-up with 38,352 votes, while UPPL’s Ratendra Daimary and others were also in the fray.

With an increased vote tally this time, Boro’s win highlights the BPF’s continued relevance in the Bodoland region, despite a competitive, multi-cornered contest.
