7-Year-Old Ishank Singh Scripts History with Palk Strait Swim

Young Indian swimmer completes 29-km open-water stretch from Sri Lanka to Tamil Nadu, becoming one of the youngest to achieve the feat

Talaimannar: In an extraordinary display of endurance and determination, seven-year-old swimmer Ishank Singh has etched his name in record books by successfully crossing the challenging Palk Strait. The young athlete completed the demanding 29-kilometre open-water swim from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu.

Despite strong currents and unpredictable sea conditions, Ishank maintained remarkable composure throughout the journey. His achievement is being recognised as one of the youngest successful crossings of the Palk Strait, a route known for testing even experienced swimmers.

Officials and observers described the feat as “truly exceptional,” highlighting both the physical stamina and mental resilience required to complete such a swim at a very young age. The Palk Strait, which connects the Bay of Bengal with the Gulf of Mannar, is considered one of the more difficult open-water stretches due to shifting tides and marine conditions.

Moreover, Ishank’s accomplishment reflects rigorous training and strong support from his team, which played a crucial role in ensuring safety and navigation during the swim. His success not only marks a personal milestone but also adds to India’s growing list of achievements in endurance sports.

Consequently, the young swimmer has become an inspiration, proving that age is no barrier when discipline and determination come together.
