Makum leads early trends; voters turn out across districts as polling remains peaceful
Tinsukia: Voting progressed at a steady pace across Upper Assam on Thursday, with Tinsukia district registering an overall turnout of 37.53 per cent by 11 am, reflecting a gradual but consistent voter response.
Among the constituencies, Makum recorded the highest participation at 39.72 per cent, followed by Sadiya at 38.47 per cent and Digboi at 37.63 per cent. Margherita reported 37.87 per cent turnout, while Doomdooma stood at 36.13 per cent. Tinsukia constituency recorded the lowest turnout so far at 35.20 per cent.
Officials said polling remained peaceful across the district, with no major incidents reported during the morning hours. They added that turnout is expected to increase as the day progresses.
In neighbouring Dibrugarh, voter participation remained steady despite light rainfall. Many voters were seen queuing up with umbrellas, and the constituency recorded around 32.87 per cent turnout by 11 am.
Across Assam, polling began at 7 am for all 126 constituencies, with more than 2.4 crore eligible voters taking part. Early trends indicated that the overall turnout was steadily rising, approaching the 40 per cent mark by late morning.
The election is being closely watched, with the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeking another term, while the opposition, led by Gaurav Gogoi, is attempting to mount a strong challenge.
With key issues such as employment, development, and regional identity influencing voter sentiment, turnout patterns throughout the day are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the final outcome.
