Akhil Gogoi alleges political involvement, seeks swift action as tensions rise ahead of voting

Sivasagar: The run-up to polling in Assam turned tense after incidents of violence were reported from multiple locations in Sivasagar on Wednesday night, with workers linked to Raijor Dal, Krishak Mukti, and Chatra Mukti allegedly targeted.
Among those injured Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) general secretary Bidyut Bikash Saikia and central leader Pranjit Gogoi, who sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of unidentified individuals at Hahchara. The assault has been described by party leaders as particularly severe.
Both were initially taken to Sivasagar Civil Hospital for emergency care before being shifted to a medical facility in Dibrugarh due to the critical nature of their condition.
Reacting strongly, Akhil Gogoi condemned the incident and alleged that such attacks were aimed at intimidating opposition workers in the final hours before voting. He called for immediate action against those responsible and raised concerns over law and order during the election period.
The violence has added a new layer of tension to the Sivasagar constituency, which is witnessing a high-profile contest between Akhil Gogoi and BJP candidate Kushal Duwori. The seat is being closely watched as one of the most politically significant battles in the ongoing Assam Assembly elections.
Authorities have yet to release a detailed statement, though an FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
