“Shameful and Unacceptable”: Priyanka Gandhi Slams Sarma Over Kharge Remarks

New Delhi: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have strongly reacted to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his remark directed at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The reaction comes after Sarma, responding to criticism from Congress leaders including Kharge and Pawan Khera, said, “Ye log pagal hai kya?” and indicated that he would pursue legal action over the allegations.
Priyanka Gandhi termed the remark “extremely shameful and unacceptable,” stating that Sarma had used “rude and derogatory language.” She further added, “By insulting him, the BJP’s Chief Minister has insulted crores of people,” while urging Narendra Modi to clarify his position on such comments.
Rahul Gandhi also criticised the statement, describing Kharge as a “widely respected Dalit leader” and asserting, “Insulting him is not just an attack on an individual, but an insult to crores of people belonging to SC/ST communities.” He further alleged that such remarks reflect a pattern of targeting leaders from marginalised communities.
The exchange is part of an ongoing political confrontation linked to allegations raised by Congress leader Pawan Khera regarding the Chief Minister’s family. With Assam heading to polls on April 9, the controversy has added to the intensifying political climate.
